Don’t Ignore Tooth Sensitivity
Do you ever wake up in the morning with an aching sensation in your jaw or a headache? Are your teeth overly sensitive? These are symptoms of bruxism, or habitual teeth grinding or clenching that is often triggered by stress.
Grinding Can Destroy Enamel
Over time, bruxism can significantly damage teeth and make them more susceptible to decay. Wearing a bruxism appliance can prevent this damage. If Dr. Staten detects that you have bruxism, she can fit you with a custom mouthguard that you’ll wear over your teeth to prevent grinding and clenching. Dental insurance plans often cover the cost of such appliances. Our finance staff will be happy to check with your insurance provider for you.
Protecting Your Teeth A Step Further
After your exam, an oral hygienist will use a handheld instrument and ultrasonic scaler to remove plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth. The ultrasonic device uses vibrations to dislodge plaque and bacteria from the hard-to-reach crevices in your teeth and gum line.
Patients also may receive preventive sealants and/or fluoride treatments.
