This may come as a surprise to many, but tooth loss is extremely common in Americans. Dr. Staten sees cases every week, the cause ranging from decay or genetics to dental trauma or periodontal disease.
Most people would think tooth loss is simply a cosmetic issue…. who wants to walk around missing teeth?! It can also be an overall dental health concern. That’s why dental implants and replacing missing teeth is essential to keeping up your mouth’s health.
Importance of Dental Implants
Earlier we told you about the Desert Hills Dental secret weapon, CEREC. That is just one of the methods we use for patients needing dental implants or restoration. Some people may get a fixed dental bridge instead or even dentures. As for dental implants, they are designed to permanently replace a tooth and not all patients require the same treatment plan.
Dr. Staten does a thorough examination to determine what the best approach would be and explains to you the options as well as the process. For some, it may just be a single tooth that needs to be replaced with an implant, for others it could be a full mouth restoration.
Research shows that dental implants can actually stop the bone lose in the affected area.
How Dental Implants Work
A titanium post (your new ‘tooth root’) is placed in the jaw bone and is allowed to heal so that bone grows around the grooves of the implant. That healing process can take anywhere between 6 weeks to 6 months. Because of this, in some cases, a two-stage implant placement is required instead of a one stage. Your procedure will be completely customized for your tooth restoration needs, and the final outcome will be natural looking teeth you’re happy to show off.
The Desert Hills Dental team strongly believes in the power of confidence, we see it first hand in our patients. It’s the shimmer in their eye after seeing themselves post-procedure with the smile of their dreams. Or the permanent grin plastered on their face after having dental implants put in after years of living with missing teeth.
Not only are we in the business of keeping your mouth and teeth healthy, we want our patients to be happy. The happiness of her patients is what makes Dr. Staten love her job so much. She gets to see a physical as well as emotional transformation when doing dental implants, it doesn’t get much better than that!
