An accident can happen at any moment. If that accident involves damage to your tooth, your first reaction may be to panic. After all, damage to a tooth doesn’t heal in the same way that a scrape or a bruise heals. If a tooth becomes chipped, the missing portion won’t grow back. Rest assured, however, that Dr. Deborha Staten can repair your damaged tooth. Below, Dr. Staten explains a couple of methods for repairing chipped teeth.
Dental Contouring
Sometimes the damage to a tooth is very small, but still noticeable. If this is the case, dental contouring can smooth the surface of the tooth by removing a small amount of enamel. Dental contouring is also used to improve the overall shape of teeth. It generally requires no anesthesia, and although it offers only small changes, those changes can yield quite a dramatic transformation.
Dental Bonding
When the missing portion of the tooth is larger, dental bonding becomes a better option. Dental bonding involves the application of a composite resin to teeth. This resin is the same material used in white dental fillings, and it is quite durable. It can also be color matched to the shade of the tooth to which it is applied. When performing dental bonding, Dr. Staten will first apply the resin and sculpt it into the desired shape. Next, she will harden the resin with a curing light, making it strong and resilient. Finally, she will put the finishing touches on the shape of the tooth and then polish it. The results can be astounding and can last for many years.
