We start by listening, not scanning

Then we gather the records
Next comes the part you cannot see in a mirror. We take digital X-rays to check the roots and the bone that will be doing the moving. An intraoral camera gives you a tour of your own mouth on a screen, which is often the first time a patient sees the crowding from our angle. When a case calls for it, our cone beam CT shows the full 3D picture of how your teeth sit in the jaw. Aligners move roots, not just the parts you can see, so we want to know what those roots are working with before anyone commits to anything.
We also check for cavities and gum trouble. Aligners over an untreated cavity is a bad idea, so if something needs fixing first, you will hear about it at this visit, not three trays in.
You leave with a written plan, numbers included
Every patient at our office gets a written treatment plan with costs spelled out before anything starts. No surprises at the front desk later. One more habit worth building early: rinse your aligners with cool tap water and shake them dry, because our hard water leaves a cloudy film when it evaporates on the plastic.

The trays are fine in your mouth, but a hot car is another story. A parked car during a Las Vegas summer can get hot enough inside to warp aligner plastic. Keep your case in a bag or bring it indoors with you, never in the glovebox. If a tray does warp, call us instead of forcing it in, since a distorted tray can push teeth the wrong way.
Am I too old for clear aligners?
No. Teeth move at any age as long as the bone and gums supporting them are healthy. That is part of what we check with digital X-rays at your first visit.
